The Debt Office has been commissioned by the Government to manage the official statistics on government borrowing and the central government debt.
As the government agency responsible for statistics, we must ensure that
- the statistics are objective
- the statistics are documented
- the statistics are quality assured.
Note that the designation or symbol may not be used in further processing of the official statistics.
Government agency network
There are currently 25 government agencies in Sweden responsible for the official statistics. Statistics Sweden (SCB) is responsible for coordination and system support for the official statistics.
The official statistics of the Debt Office
In the report “Sweden’s Central Government Debt”, we show the composition of the central government debt at the end of each month.
The report is part of Sweden’s official statistics and accounts for the central government debt in accordance with the applicable calculation methods at the time of publication. In tables and diagrams published online, the historical data have been recalculated according to currently applicable principles. These figures may therefore differ slightly from the ones published in the report.
We also give a monthly report on the net outcome of the central government’s revenues and payments (the net borrowing requirement), which is also part of the official statistics.
