Issuance

The Debt Office borrows on behalf of the Swedish central government by issuing mainly nominal government bonds, inflation-linked bonds and treasury bills in kronor, referred to as government securities. We also issue bonds in foreign currency.

Nominal government bonds, inflation-linked bonds and treasury bills are regularly issued in auctions in which the Debt Office’s primary dealers submit bids. These government securities are then traded in the secondary market, where the primary dealers undertake to quote buy and sell prices.

Bonds in foreign currencies complement the regular borrowing in kronor. These bonds are issued through syndication, which means that a group of banks are assigned to execute the sale.
