Coverage and scope

Banks, credit market companies and investment firms (institutions) that are authorized to accept and hold customer funds in accounts are covered by deposit insurance.

The insurance is applicable when an institution has gone bankrupt or after a decision by Finansinspektionen. It covers all types of accounts except pension accounts.

Institutions handling financial instruments, securities brokers and other institutions that have a permit to provide investment services belong to the investor compensation scheme. The scheme covers financial instruments and cash handled by the institution on behalf of their customers. It is applicable if an institution goes bankrupt and is unable to return the customers' assets.
